#SSC#CGL#Strategy

SSC CGL (Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level) is the gateway to Group B and C posts in central government departments like CBI, Income Tax, Enforcement Directorate, and Audit & Accounts. Tier 1 is an online test with 100 questions in 60 minutes.

Tier 1 Pattern

| Section | Questions | Marks | |---|---|---| | General Intelligence & Reasoning | 25 | 50 | | General Awareness | 25 | 50 | | Quantitative Aptitude | 25 | 50 | | English Comprehension | 25 | 50 |

Total: 100 questions, 200 marks, 60 minutes Negative Marking: -0.5 per wrong answer Cut-off (General): Typically 140–160 for top posts

Why 160+ Is the Target

  • 145+ is usually safe for Tier 2 qualification
  • 155–160 gives post-preference advantage (CBI, IT Officer)
  • 160+ puts you in top 5% of candidates

Section-wise Tips

Reasoning (Target: 22/25)

Easiest section if practiced well. Series, Analogies, Odd One Out are the fastest — solve these first. Blood relations and directions take more time but are predictable.

GK (Target: 18/25)

Most unpredictable — depends on what appears. Static GK is more reliable. For current affairs, focus on government schemes, awards, sports, science news from last 6 months.

Maths (Target: 20/25)

Don't attempt guesses — -0.5 matters here. Master formula-based topics: Percentage, SI/CI, Average. Geometry and Trigonometry often trip candidates — skip difficult ones in exam.

English (Target: 20/25)

Error Detection and Fill in the Blanks are fastest. RC and Para Jumbles take more time. Vocabulary (synonym/antonym) is easiest marks if practiced.

Ideal Exam Attempt Order

  1. Reasoning (12 min) → 2. Maths (15 min) → 3. English (13 min) → 4. GK (10 min) → 5. Review (10 min)
